Documents & Records
This section provides an overview of the types of records available in our family archives. Access the scanned images and transcripts stored in our Box folders and other online repositories. Categories include official certificates, census and local records, travel papers, photographs, wills, and military service documents.
| Category | Description |
|---|---|
| Birth, Marriage & Death Certificates | Original documents recording key life events for our ancestors. Look for scans in the “Family Tree” folders within Box. |
| Census & Local Records | UK census returns, parish registers, electoral rolls and property documents. These help trace where our relatives lived and worked. |
| Immigration & Travel Papers | Passenger lists, passports and naturalisation documents from relatives who emigrated or travelled abroad. |
| Photographs & Portraits | Old family photos, formal portraits and newspaper clippings. Often annotated on the back with names and dates. |
| Wills & Probate | Last wills and probate records revealing relationships, occupations and property. |
| Military Service Records | Draft cards, enlistment papers, service medals and war correspondence. |
Digitisation Tips
To preserve fragile originals, always scan or photograph documents at 150–200 dpi. Save images in a stable format such as JPEG or PNG and make backup copies. When sharing sensitive information, redact living people’s personal details to protect their privacy.
